About One-Acts
Each year as our fall major production, Dramashop presents an
evening of student-written, student-directed (and student-acted, student-designed,
and student-teched) one-act plays. The plays themselves vary in length from fifteen minutes to an hour.
Usually, three plays make up an evening, but there can be as few as two or as many as four.
Student directors are assisted by faculty mentors. The relationship between
mentor and director is determined by the people involved. For the most part, mentors take a hands-off role.
The one-acts are always set and light-designed by students, unlike our other
major productions. While one-act production values are high, they do not receive the same
attention from technical faculty as do our other majors. Therefore, one-acts cannot be too technically complex.
One-acts are a great way for people to get involved with Dramashop for the first time. Come on and join us!
